Most e-assessment technology begins at the point where a response is already digital. This inevitably means leaving work produced on paper out. It still needs to be read, scored and returned by a person, creating a heavy workload for the teacher and delaying the final feedback to the student.
Trifork and the Institut für Bildungsevaluation (IBE) developed Handwritten Essay Assessment with AI to close that gap without changing the concept of handwriting. Students write on paper exactly as before. Completed papers are scanned and uploaded, converted into text, and scored against the rubric criteria held in the QTI item.
